GM. This is Jesus By Heart. The newsletter that helps you memorize the Bible and find wonderful Christian art for your home.

✝️ Luke 11:28 · Day 4 of 5.

Here is how this works. Each week we learn one thing Jesus said, by heart.

  1. You see the same words every day, Monday to Friday.

  2. Each day a few more words go missing, so you fill them in yourself.

  3. By Friday you can say the whole thing from memory.

You'll also find this week's art piece below.

💡 CONTEXT / 4 OF 5 — Jesus Himself

Here is the part that gets me.

Jesus did not just teach this. He lived it first. He is the firstborn of the very family he describes, the one who heard the word of God and kept it all the way to the end.

Look at his life. As a boy, they found him in the temple, sitting with the teachers, listening and asking questions. Then he went home with his parents and obeyed them. Hearing, then keeping.

Out in the wilderness, when he was hungry and worn down and tempted, he answered every push the same way. 'It is written.' He held onto God's word when it would have been easy to let go.

And at the very end, in the garden, sweating and afraid, he prayed the hardest words a person can pray. 'Not my will, but yours, be done.' That is what keeping the word costs when it costs everything.

So when Jesus says the blessed ones are those who hear and keep, he is not asking us to do something he skipped. He is inviting us into his own life.

And do not miss who did it first, before him, at the human level. His mother. When the angel came with an impossible word, Mary said, 'Let it be to me according to your word.' Mother and Son, the same yes. She kept the word, and so did he.

🙏 PRAY THIS

Jesus, you heard your Father and kept his word all the way to the cross. When keeping your word costs us something this week, steady us, and remind us we are following you, not going first. Amen.

That's it for today! See you tomorrow.
